Passive Income & Side Hustle Update - March 2023 | Marginally Better

Another super quick one. Long story short; income went up totaling $620 for the month, portfolio went down by -19% since I had to withdraw some money

  • $250 from Flipping sales, showing a surprising but welcome return to form
  • $220 from Youtube ad revenue, a stark increase
  • $88 from Nicehash thanks to big spike in crypto values, despite half my farm being down
  • $24 from Shapeways 3D print sales
  • $14 from Amazon affiliate sales
  • $6.22 from Print on Demand sales, worst month in a long time
  • $4.40 in MyMiniFactory 3d model sales
  • -$0.47 in Lbry token value loss
  • -$4.93 in Signum token value loss despite mining being full steam ahead

 Direct Sales:

Saw a return to form from my flipping sales, and that's continuing even now as we've slid into the month of April. Great to see, need to stay on top of it and see if we can grow this. I've also started porting over my 3D print items from my old Shopify store to my Squarespace Mike in the Woods youtube channel site, so centralize everything in one location and reduce cost. A few visits here and there, but most of that is from me from testing--will see how this trends going forward

Youtube

My metrics actually improved greatly over the last month. Though I've cut back to only one video a week again, the individual video topics were much more thought out and seem to be hitting the 'quality over quantity' mark.

I also hit a major milestone of a sustained series of days at 1,000 views per day.

Metrics for March:

  • Published 5 videos, one more than expected minimum
  • Finished March with 7,800 subscribers; up 274 over last month
  • Subscriber growth rate: 3.6%, a major improvement and the highest rate this year
  • Average daily views throughout March: 976, up from last month's 812, or a staggering increase of 20.2%
  • Average daily subscriber count: 9, up from last month's 7

So unfortunately, I'm still well behind where Need to be to hit my end of year goals, but I still have hope that once the outdoors season approaches for the majority of people, I can ramp past that. I just have to stay true to the videos that align well with my mission statement.

- Currently at 7,800 subscribers
- To hit 25,000 subscribers by end of year, I should be at 9,732
- To hit 15,000 subscribers by end of year, I should be at 8,560

Going forward, I'm not going to force two videos a week, but I'll do it when I feel like I have a good secondary video idea, and I have the time (some stuff  like the flipping sales and other stuff has eaten into my time available for a second video).

Chat GPT has been helping immensely with Youtube and other projects, and I've begun experimenting with Midjourney for image generation.

Monthly Work Goals

Here's what I set out to do in March, and how I fared:

  • Minimum 4x, target 8x, Mike in the Woods Youtube videos
    Published 5
  • Maintain 207 active Flipping listings
    Mantaining
  • Electric Snowboard build:
    • Redesign motor mounting arms to seat wheel 1.5" lower, and give more lateral clearance
      Completed!
    • 3D print new motor arms and swap out on build
      Completed!
    • First successful test-ride
      Completed!
    • First successful overnight backpacking trip
Delayed to next season due to ongoing tweaks & improvements
  • Reach three-day streak of over 1,000 views per day
    Accomplished!
  • Identify new exchange with functional API for GCTT retarget
None available, parking this project for now

Overall, I did pretty good! Hit ever major mark I wanted to.

What I have planned for April:

  • Minimum 4x, Stretch goal 8x, Mike in the Woods Youtube videos
  • Grow amount of active flipping listings (work my way through death pile)
  • Get Mining Rigs repaired/sorted
  • Continue porting 3D prints for sale to mikeinthewoods.ca
  • Repair electric skateboard for end-of-month backpacking trip re-attempt
  • Look into GPT-4 and the HustleGPT challenge
  • Look into ways to generate revenue with Midjourney AI

Investments

So, I unfortunately had to withdraw a substantial amount of money to pay off backowed rent from a much-delayed above-guideline rental fee increase, so that dropped my portfolio down significantly to a -19.16% loss. Still hemmoraging as my various projects have not stabilized my income-to-spend ratio yet.

As for weighting:

Pretty heavily stocks at the moment.

And finally, my FIRE income tracker, where I calculate my total monthly revenue plus the monthly portion of my 4% annual withdrawal rate of my investments.

See you next month
