Super quick one, since I'm writing this over my lunch break. Overall assessment, not too great. Poor, actually. Saw only a $367 gross income from side projects, and a -3.91% portfolio loss from value drop.
- $157 in Youtube ad revenue, marking a gain over last month
- $72 from Nicehash mining earnings
- $68 in Amazon affiliate sales, marking an abnormally above-average month
- $25 in Print on Demand artwork sales via Redbubble and Society6
- $18 in 3D models via MyMiniFactory
- $13 in value gain & mining income from Signum mining
- $10 in 3D print sales via Shapeways
- -$1.18 value loss in Odysee tokens
Cryptocurrency:
Binance finally disabled my API keys, and due to living in Ontario I am not allowed to create a new set. This has effectively shut down my automated trading on Binance via my GCTT homebrew trading bot. I will need to identify a Canadian-allowed crypto exchange with a fully-featured API that I can re-tool GCTT for.
Signum HDD mining is going well, as I continue to accelerate by locking in more of my mined tokens. Some of my hard drives may be failing, I'll need to look into identifying those and replacing them soon.
Youtube:
The spikes from first-day data of video releases has leveled out; I saw a flattening of the curve over February (but still upwards in trajectory). Updated look at 365 day views lookback:
I've been continuing to produce two videos a week, though since it's not having as much of an impact I may lay off a bit on that in March if trends continue to flatten and/or take a downward turn.
This is the metrics for February:
- Published 8 videos, in line with stretch goal and twice the expected minimum
- Finished February with 7,526 subscribers; up 190 over last month
- Subscriber growth rate: 2.6%, down from last month's 3.4% and the previous month's 2.8%
- Average daily views throughout February: 817, up from last month's 784, or an increase of 4.2%
- Average daily subscriber count: 7, on par with last month
I'm falling further and further behind where I need to be to hit my goals:
- To hit 25,000 subscribers by end-of-year, I should be at 8,759
- To hit 15,000 subscribers by end-of-year, I should be at 8,042
I need to study why my views have flattened out again and think about what I can do to improve. For adventure videos, I think I need to work in more music as I've really not used much BG music at all in my more recent vids.
I've also started using ChatGPT as a tool for helping me with Youtube video ideas and titles. Definitely worth it.
I've also parked the idea of the electric motorcycle for now, as I already have way too much on the go with my other projects.
I got my Mike in the Woods website up and running (mikeinthewoods.ca) for professional contacts by potential sponsorships. Go check it out! Pretty barebones right now, but will continue to build on it.
Work Items
Here's what I set out to do in February, and what I accomplished:
- Minimum 4x, target 8x, Mike in the Woods Youtube Videos
Successfully released 8 videos - Maintain 207 active Flipping listings
Completed - Electric Snowboard build, assuming replacement electric motor arrives:
- Wrap up odds & ends of building like waxing, water sealing exposed innards, organizing ESC & wiring
Still a few odds & ends to do, but critical work items completed - Attach Tread v2.0 to new motor
Completed - Attach new motor to motor mounting arms, assess clearance for new tread on arms (may need to tweak and re-print)
Completed - Initial test-ride with everything all powered up
Completed - Continue porting Shopify 3D print catalogue to Ebay & Bonanza
Parked as I have disabled my Shopify store in favor of new site - Break even on Shopify monthly cost with 3D print sales (now at 2x multiplier)
Cancelled - Successfully pass mock Motorcycle M1 license test
electric motorcycle project parked for now - Finish assessing electric motorcycle project cost & financing
electric motorcycle project parked for now
Goals for March:
- Minimum 4x, target 8x, Mike in the Woods Youtube videos
- Maintain 207 active Flipping listings
- Electric Snowboard build:
- Redesign motor mounting arms to seat wheel 1.5" lower, and give more lateral clearance
- 3D print new motor arms and swap out on build
- First successful test-ride
- First successful overnight backpacking trip
- Reach three-day streak of over 1,000 views per day
- Identify new exchange with functional API for GCTT retarget
Investment portfolio saw a -3.91% drop in February, just from value loss. Pretty standard stuff. March will see a big drop due to some emergency funds having to be withdrawn for backowed rent for something I wasn't expecting.
As for weighting:
As I continue to dip into my Crypto savings, the amount keeps shifting in favor of my stock portfolio. Yes, I know I need to stop dipping in, but that's why I'm fighting so hard on the Youtube front--it has the biggest future of all my side projects. Storm before the calm, or something like that.
And finally, a look at my FIRE income tracker, where I calculate my total monthly revenue plus the monthly portion of my 4% annual withdrawal rate of my investments. Not much to really look at this month.
See you next month! Hopefully I'll have more positive news & numbers to share
