Passive Income & Side Hustle Update - September 2022 | Late To The Party

A bit late with this one. Came back from a week-long vacation out to Halifax where me and the wife were scoping out somewhere we'll likely buy a home (more on that in a bit). As such, playing catch-up, this post will be relatively short & sweet. Especially when it's mostly negative & disheartening news about most of my projects; morale is at a bit of a low at this point in time.

This past month was a relatively low income revenue & slight investment portfolio gain period; seeing $465 in project income and a 3.48% month-over-month investment portfolio gain.

  • $196 from Youtube ad revenue, showing a rising amount as we get closer to the holiday season
  • $159 from Nicehash; earnings have dropped significantly since ETH introduced the PoS staking merge
  • $57 from Print on Demand artwork sales between Society6 and Redbubble
  • $34 from Amazon Affiliate sales via Youtube video description links
  • $9.81 from MyminiFactory 3d model sales
  • $5.47 from Signum mining & value gain
  • $1.77 from Lbry token value gain
  • $0.44 from value gain & affiliate income via automated trading on Binance

Really quickly, let's blow through some highlights:

First up, got my first few Patreon patrons. With some pretty wild pledges. No earnings to be included for the month of September, but October has revenue that will be reported for it. Nice!

The Gaia Cryptocurrency trading tool (GCTT) I wrote continues to trade for me on my laptop. I'm writing this about a week after the numbers for September were frozen, but at the moment the bot is currently down -2.48% as I work to tune it to being profitable. It's not doing so hot, and was down the entire week I was away because it rebooted from a Windows update the day after I left. That issue should be resolved, as I haxxored Windows 10 to not be able to restart itself, hopefully leading to 100% uptime for the trading bot.

I gained one more Binance affiliate with the GCTT downloads:

Mining income has dropped dramatically ever since Ethereum introduced their Proof of Stake system, income has been about 1/10th of what it was prior. Combine that with my aging rigs, and you can surmise that we probably won't be seeing $20/day with my setup again.

In Youtube land, the start of September saw the start of a steep decline in metrics.

September metrics:

  • Published 4 videos, in line with my minimum goal (missed a week due to busy schedule)
  • Finished September with 6,575 subscribers, up 243 over last month.
  • Subscriber growth rate: 3.2%, down from last month's 3.84%
  • Average daily views throughout September: 779, up from last month's 724; or an increase of 7.6%
  • Average daily subscribers: 8, on par with last three months

In probably the biggest news, me and my wife discussed our current vehicle (Mazda 3) being paid off finally, and we decided to order a Tesla Model 3. White, white interior, RWD (Standard Range) with 18" aero wheels. No FSD or enhanced autopilot.

The goal is to use it to make camping & road trip videos for the channel in lieu of the Cybertruck, of which delivery is still realistically 2 years away. Currently, delivery is highly likely in the month of December.

Next, my to-do list for September, versus what I actually accomplished:

  • 4x Mike in the Woods Youtube videos (minimum of 3)
    Succeeded
  • Maintain 200 active Flipping listings
    Succeeded
  • Electric Snowboard Build:
    • Once motor arrives, do a motor mount fit check. Refine until appropriate.
Motor has not arrived yet. Opened claim with site, as it's been 2 months since last tracking update--assume motor was lost in transit
    • 3D print and mount prototype mounting arms to snowboard
      Completed
    • Waterproofing of exposed fiberglass in board cutout and where bolts connect through to battery case
Not done due to missing motor
    • Mount ESC to inner top lid of battery case
Not done due to missing motor
    • Program ESC to work with hub motor
      Can't complete until motor arrives
    • Order contour tool from Amazon for beginning motor tread insert design
      Not completed yet
  • Complete features for, and release, Gaia Cryptocurrency Trading Tool v0.2.0
    Completed
  • Order replacement fans for one of Mining Rig 004's GPUs
    Not done

Work items for October:

  • 4x Mike in the Woods Youtube videos (minimum of 3)
  • Maintain 200 active Flipping listings
  • Electric Snowboard build -- Resolve missing motor shipment issue
  • Complete features for, and release, Gaia Cryptocurrency Trading Tool v0.3.0
  • Order replacement parts for one of Mining Rig 004's GPUs

Investments:

Saw a modest 3.48% monthly gain.

Portfolio weighting:

Saw a bit of a tip more in favor of cryptocurrency.

And my FIRE target tracker, where I calculate my total monthly revenue plus the monthly portion of my 4% annual withdrawal rate of my investments:

Bit of a drop from last month as we continue the poor performing income amounts.
